Pradeep Mettu, MD - Duke and Mayo Clinic Trained Oculofacial Plastic Surgeon

Meet Pradeep Mettu, MD, the oculofacial plastic surgeon who's an expert in fixing what you didn't even know was broken. JK. IRL he’ll focus on whatever is on your mind. Originally from Pikeville, Kentucky, Dr. Mettu has been on a mission to open the eyes of the people of Raleigh not just figuratively, but also literally! He received his B.S. from Duke (no biggie) and his M.D. from the University of Kentucky - not as impressive as Duke, but don’t hold it against him! While at the University of Kentucky he was one of the few medical students selected as a Junior Member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (the most competitive and prestigious honor a medical student can obtain).

Dr. Mettu continued his impressive education - a highly selective research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (only 30 medical students in the entire country are accepted each year), residency in Ophthalmology at Duke (because one degree from Duke just wasn't enough), and a fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology and Orbital Diseases at Duke (seriously, you probably get it by now, he loves Duke). But he didn't stop there! He also completed an Oculofacial Plastic Surgery fellowship at the University of Minnesota and Mayo Clinic where he learned oculofacial plastic surgery from some of the best surgeons in the world.

After enduring too many frigid winters (we can't blame him), Dr. Mettu and his wife Monica (also a southerner and a Duke alum - no surprise there) were thrilled to return to the Triangle in 2017 with their three children. Ishaan, Anaya, and Jaya may be young, but they've already learned the importance of never leaving North Carolina (or Duke) behind.

So if you're looking for a board-certified oculofacial plastic surgeon who knows his way around an eyelid, has a love for Duke that rivals even the most devoted Cameron Crazies, and is a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) - the best of the best eyelid surgeons - Dr. Mettu is your guy!

And, by the way, if you are wondering what Dr. Mettu likes to do when he’s not working, it’s spending time with family (of course)! He’s also an expert chauffeur who can often be found darting around the triangle to various kids’ activities such as basketball, tennis, piano, swim, and Bhangra (a form of Indian dance). He also enjoys learning new sports with his family, most recently skiing and surfing (hang ten, dude). Check out some pics below!
