Notice the puffiness of each lower eyelid. This is due to orbital fat protruding and is a common concern for many patients. While some patients are born with puffy lower eyelids, this is a problem that more commonly develops over time. This patient underwent transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty (scarless approach through the inside of the eyelid) to address the puffiness. After surgery, the puffy areas are no longer visible and the patient has a natural and aesthetically pleasing appearance.

CO2 laser resurfacing is a great treatment option for sun spots and age spots and can be used on various parts of the body including the hands. The laser ablates the skin. As the skin heals, skin quality and complexion improve.

This patient in her 40s is shown 9 days after heavier CO2 laser resurfacing of the upper eyelids with Lutronic eCO2 Plus and light laser peel (Lutronic eCOTone) for the rest of the face. Notice the overall improvement in her skin tone and texture and significant reduction in the hooding of her upper eyelids. Of note, she did not have any incisional surgery (i.e. no upper blepharoplasty).

Botox is a cosmetic injectable medication that weakens muscles temporarily.

The medication can be strategically placed to rejuvenate the face.

In addition to generally softening or preventing wrinkles, Botox treatment can be tailored to address specific concerns.

Most patients return for injections approximately every 3 months.

This patient also has a full face light laser peel (Lutronic eCOTone). After laser resurfacing, there is continued improvement in the skin over the course of months.

  • We lose volume in our temples as we age leading to a sunken appearance.

Filler can be used to add volume to the temple, improving facial contours and supporting the lateral brow.

Temple filler is less susceptible to post procedure swelling or lumps and bumps and can provide an instant result.

For this patient, higher energy laser resurfacing (eCO2 plus) was performed on the upper eyelids and the malar/cheek areas were also treated with higher energy to to target festoons. The rest of the face was treated with a lower energy (eCOTone) laser peel. Laser resurfacing helps improve pigmentary changes, sun damage, wrinkles, scars, and overall skin quality.

This patient received filler injections to add fullness to her temples.

Hemifacial spasm (HFS) is a condition characterized by increased activity of the facial nerve which leads to spasms on one side of the face. The first line treatment is botulinum toxin injections. A patient's results after botulinum toxin injections is demonstrated in this video

Benign Essential Blepharospasm is a poorly understood, often debilitating movement disorder in which patients experience spasms of the muscles of eyelid closure on both sides without any apparent cause. In the early stages, the disease may appear as frequent blinks. The diagnosis may not be obvious to a provider who is not familiar with this condition. Patients frequently have associated light sensitivity. There is no treatment to prevent the abnormal signal causing the spasms (i.e. there is no oral medication that is effective). Thus, the mainstay of treatment is Botulinum Toxin injections to weaken the muscles undergoing spasms. Injections are typically repeated around every three months and are very effective in helping patients obtain relief as demonstrated here. Oromandibular dystonia (also known as Meige Syndrome) is a variant of BEB that involves lower face movement. There are other forms of abnormal facial movements that can affect the periocular muscles.
