How to Maintain Upper Blepharoplasty Results

At Raleigh Eye and Face, Dr. Mettu’s patients enjoy excellent cosmetic results. We want our patients to maintain the results for years to come! In this blog post, we will review some tips that will help you enjoy the long term results of your upper blepharoplasty.

How Blepharoplasty Creates Stunning Results

Upper Blepharoplasty is the medical term for a surgery that removes excess skin and contours the upper eyelid. Dr. Mettu customizes the surgery for each patient based upon the findings and goals.

Maintaining Your Favorite Blepharoplasty Results

During the blepharoplasty recovery period, it does not take long for you to start seeing the full effects of your surgery. Usually, swelling and bruising resolves at around 2 weeks and patients start to appreciate the results. There is continued improvement over the course of months as the eyelids continue to heal.

After the initial recovery phase, here are some things that can be done to help optimize and preserve your results!

Protect Your Skin From Sun Damage

If you are going to spend time outdoors, do not forget to bring powerful SPF sunscreen (SPF 30 or greater) with you. Even on overcast days, the sun’s UV rays can damage your skin. Sunscreen can be carefully applied to your eyelids once you are at least a couple weeks out from surgery. Do not forget UV blocking sunglasses and a hat as well!

Check in with Dr. Mettu

Dr. Mettu will want to see you at least once or twice following your surgery to make sure that the recovery process is going well and to modify post procedure care as needed.

Use a Skin Care and Stay Moisturized

Along with protecting your skin against sun damage, it is also important that you keep the delicate areas of your face moisturized and treated with a good skin care routine. The skin around your eyelids is very thin and even more fragile than skin elsewhere. A good skincare routine can help keep your skin youthful and can help maintain excellent surgical results.
