Eyelid Injuries

A large object fell and struck this patient in the face. Fortunately, the eye was not injured. The brow laceration was repaired in the emergency room by another provider, and the patient was then referred for management of the right upper and lower eyelid injury. He underwent successful repair 2 days after the injury.

Eyelid injuries can occur by a variety of mechanisms including blunt trauma from physical altercations, motor vehicle accidents, dog bites, and sports injuries. Sometimes, the tear drainage system (lacrimal system) is involved and needs to be repaired as well. Dr. Mettu performs a careful examination to diagnose and treat any associated eye injuries. Eyelid lacerations can then be surgically repaired, restoring both structure and function.
